Information sharing
Information sharing is about how people work together in organisations, about how they collaborate to create documents, discuss topics, follow work-flows and generally share ideas and information products of all kinds.
Information sharing activities vary in scale, from between members of a small project team, to entire multi-national organisations, and, indeed, nowadays, to the entire population of Internet users.
Information sharing is essential for any organisation trying to raise productivity, work smarter and reduce costs. Indeed, with the low-cost tools now available (eg SharePoint) and freely available applications on the web (eg Google apps) – it is becoming non-optional.
Typical problems that manifest themselves in organisations where collaboration and information sharing activities are limited include the emergence of "information silos" – a lack of "information flow", visibility and access – and a lack of version control and audited histories.
TFPL helps clients with information sharing
TFPL have always had a strong interest in sharing and collaboration through our early interest in knowledge management.
As part of our consultancy services, we can offer to:
- Work with organisations to reform their information management programme to include collaboration and information sharing
- Provide information design consultancy for information sharing projects, for example, designing all of the information architecture required to power a SharePoint deployment, or the building of taxonomies to power better information finding generally;
- Organise conferences and events around collaboration and information sharing
- Provide consultancy on how to move towards becoming a learning and sharing organisation
If you have any enquiries, please contact TFPL Consultancy at consultancy@tfpl.com.
