Knowledge mobilisation

Organisations know how much they depend on the knowledge of all their staff, irrespective of the individual's level of responsibility. But organisations, whether public or private, often fail to use this knowledge well.

Knowledge can remain hidden, and the penalties, in terms of day-to-day performance, can be significant. We all know how important product knowledge is, for instance, to our confidence in a firm's sales force.

"TFPL have now completed their (KM Framework) review, consulting with a wide range of people across the organisation and the wider NHS, using the TFPL Health Check Process. The consultation was carried out by interviews, culminating with a senior management workshop to determine together which actions would have the biggest impact on knowledge sharing. TFPL recommended a KM framework with a number of actions, for NHS CFH to build on our existing KM initiatives."
Andrew Lambe, Knowledge and Collaboration Services Manager, NHS Connecting for Health

Knowledge – whether in an individual's expertise and experience or held as a team asset – can contribute much more to an organisation if it is available, accessible and used for the widest potential benefit.

Mobilising knowledge means harnessing the knowledge the organisation already has to improve its effectiveness and filling any critical gaps. It means using the techniques, tools and processes that are now well established for knowledge management where they matter most.

TFPL helps clients with knowledge mobilisation

Organisations mobilise their knowledge by recognising where it is critical to their success and then putting a strategy in place to realise its value to a wider audience, however executed. TFPL recognises this approach, and can offer to clients the following consultancy services:

  • Base-lining current knowledge capability;
  • Developing strategies which set out the steps for improving its quality and accessibility;
  • By developing action plans to deal with the most urgent knowledge problems;
  • By fostering collaboration and networking;
  • And by reducing the risk of knowledge loss through techniques such as knowledge harvesting.
