EDRMS
EDRM systems provide a single corporate repository for managing electronic records. Moving to EDRM is a huge change for an organisation and for individual users. Technology is only a part of the story. The development of records management frameworks, such as records audits, a retention schedule, access permissions, and business classifications, are essential prerequisites to the effective introduction of EDRM. And these frameworks themselves are only effective if people in the organisation understand them and utilise them.
The bottom line is that an EDRM system will only realise benefits if people actually use the system to save their records and to seek out the information they need.
EDRMS implementations must therefore be recognised as a major organisational change, and effort needs to be expended in:
- Helping people to understand, influence and shape changes that affect them
- Helping people develop the skills and capabilities they need to prosper in the new situation
- Building commitment and energy for the change
TFPL has the expertise and experience of both developing records management programmes and in managing a change programme within in an information management context. We can build the appropriate frameworks with the users, an approach which has the double benefit of ensuring that frameworks reflect the knowledge of users, and are acceptable to users.
