Implementing quality records management
To implement quality records management in a cost-effective way to support the needs of the organisation.
TFPL solution
A dedicated team of 2 skilled Records Managers were appointed headed by an experienced project manager. These staff were selected from the TFPL qualified pool of contract staff.

This team worked across the organisation promoting best practice, agreeing guidelines and framework for the programme. Took responsibility for design and planning of a records programme to include creation of a file plan, records inventory, retention schedules and classification system and the completion of records manual.

The next stage involved Implementation of the records programme including end user support and the carrying out of an awareness and training programme.

At this current time they are working closely with IT to develop an infrastructure for electronic records management.

Outcome
The work was completed on time and within budget constraints. Client feedback was positive, as was feedback from the end users - "Records Management made easy"

Developing the functionality of a leading scientific database
A not-for-profit producer of a major international science and technology database, offering coverage in a broad range of disciplines. The client’s aim was to increase the range of its products and services and optimise the quality and dissemination methods of its existing products. TFPL was appointed to test the market for new database content and advise on future development. The project involved facilitating focus groups (both in UK and the US) on the functionality of the existing and prototype products and conducting a web-based questionnaire to elicit data on current and proposed database content. TFPL was able to report to the client advising on future database development in relation to both functionality and content.

They were required to form alliances with business critical teams with the overall aim of providing a strategic contribution to the construction of a publication scheme in order to meet obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Using the results of an information audit to build a new intranet
An information and knowledge audit demonstrated the lack of co-ordinated information and management processes within this charity and the need to improve the organisation of its core information and knowledge. TFPL developed an information and knowledge transfer model that demonstrated how a central intranet-based resource could be developed to drive delivery of a variety of information and knowledge products to core staff, volunteers and health professionals. TFPL also defined processes for information collection and information product delivery.
