The TFPL Health SIG meeting will be held on Monday, 2nd July 2013 at 5.30pm at the Manchester Conference Centre.
As health and social care move toward greater integration care and support services need to work closely with health, housing and the wider community to support the needs of people with long-term conditions, disability, mental health problems and an ageing population. There is an increasing need for accessible high-quality information and advice services in social care as service users, particularly self-funders and personal budget-holders, want to make informed choices about the types of care available to them. The development of the personalisation agenda means greater choice and control for people planning their own care and support and access to a variety of tools to help them negotiate what can be a complex and mystifying system.
This meeting will include presentations and discussions on some of the tools and services available and the issues they raise for information professionals with regard to best practice.

Due to the popularity of this subject we will be running a session at the Manchester Conference Centre on 2nd July from 5.30pm to 8pm.
The TFPL Health SIG meeting was held on Monday, 26th November 2012 at 5.30pm at the BMA in London.
We discussed the recent Dept of Health (DH) report, (12 May 2012) entitled "The power of information: Putting all of us in control of the health and care information we need" and in particular looked at what the report says/does not say about KIM, what messages need to be sent to the DH, and (un)likely outcomes.
Sue Lacey-Bryant, Head of Commissioning Support arrangements and Organisational Development, NHS Milton Keynes CCG, chaired the event.
A very successful meeting was held in Leeds attracting over 20 attendees to continue discussion on the topic and have input from the north of England. The presentations given can be downloaded below along with the report of the meeting and discussions.
Here is a brief report of the meeting including output from the group discussions at the end.
We held a very interesting meeting on the knowledge and information needs of GPs from commissioning and clinical requirements, chaired by Sue Lacey-Bryant (Associate Director of GP Consortia Development/Chief Knowledge Officer, Milton Keynes PCT ), attended by 35 delegates coming from a mix of information suppliers (including charities), IT providers and NHS library and information professionals. The presentations and discussion outputs are given below . Please see the TFPL blog for a brief meeting report.
Dr Anita Jolly gave an overview of what knowledge and information commissioning GPs need.
Anne Gray described the information services developed in Milton Keynes and their commissioning handbook.
Sarah Panzetta talked about the Camden GP site.
The meeting focused on the provision of social care information from SCIE and NHS Evidence and how the two organisations planned to develop information resources for social workers working for Local Authorities the NHS (where there focus was on social care), the voluntary and charitable sectors. The report and presentations can be downloaded below.
Due to the very successful and informative meeting held in Leeds (12 October 2010), to look at how DH Informatics are taking KM tools and techniques out into the NHS to improve sharing of knowledge, experience and lessons learned, we decided to re-run the meeting in London for those in the south of the country to participate and hear the success stories. The format of this meeting was similar to the previous one, with the discussions building on the outcomes from the Leeds meeting, and chaired by Sue Lacey-Bryant, Associate Director of GP Consortia Development, NHS Milton Keynes. A report of the meeting can be downloaded below.
The meeting held in Leeds on 12 October 2010 was welcomed as an opportunity for those based in the region and nearby to participate in a Health SIG meeting. Comments indicated a very successful networking event, with everyone making new contacts from across the public health arena. A report of the meeting can be downloaded below.
