"a lively and enthusiastic facilitator who provoked discussion, but equally knew when to bring discussions back to the point at hand. I was interested in understanding how to get a commmunity off the ground and the workshop covered this."

"I wished to learn about nurturing communities of practice, measuring their success and selling the benefits to senior management. I felt these objectives were all met well."

introduction:

Communities, virtual and physical, are at the heart of knowledge sharing in organisations, and are hence a vital component of any KM strategy, but how do you ensure their success, and measure and monitor their business impact?

programme:

Originally developed following a highly successful Learning Consortium in 2006, which involved eight companies with deep experience with Communities of Practice, including Shell, Unilever, Oracle and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. The programme has now been updated to reflect an increase in the use of virtual collaboration tools, and includes a practical introduction to Social Network Analysis.

Topics covered will include:

  • Understanding when to use Communities of Interest, Practice and Purpose
  • The lifecycle of a typical community - tools, hints and tips for success at every stage.
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Engaging communities in the use of virtual collaboration technology
  • Ideas for community governance
  • Using Social Network Analysis to measure the impact
  • Selling the benefits to Senior Managers

All delegates will receive a "Community Healthcheck Tool" to transfer learning from the programme back to their organisations.
