introduction:

Digital preservation asks, how can my organisation use the computerised documents or spreadsheets (or other files) which it creates today in two, three, five, ten years, or longer? This is an essential and urgent problem for any regulated industry in which some records must be accessible for 20 to 100 years or more.

This course is an intermediate course on how to achieve effective digital preservation. It covers the main practical solutions, and shows how to create policies and behaviours which will apply these in real-world organisations.

teaching style:

This course is taught in short presentations, with discussion to bring out the experiences of attendees. It includes practical examples, which will be demonstrated to attendees, and it also has a workshop element in which attendees will draft and discuss some policies, and will experience actual preservation events. The course is supplemented by hand-outs and references to web sites and publications.

who should attend?

This course is specifically for Company Secretaries, senior Lawyers, senior Compliance Managers, or senior Quality staff who are responsible for ensuring that documents are available far into the future. It will also be useful for Information leaders (Librarians, Records Managers, Information Officers, Knowledge Officers) and ICT leaders.
