A faceted taxonomy describes information in a number of different, discrete ways. This course looks at how you decide what facets are important to your end users, and how to create and implement them.

outcomes:

  • an appreciation of what a faceted taxonomy is, and what the benefits are;
  • familiarity with the origins and theory of facets;
  • an understanding of how to crate and faceted taxonomy, including hands on experience;
  • an overview of how to integrate facets into you information management or dissemination solution.

who should attend?

Anyone working in information management or web site development who wants to understand how using facets can improve the end users' search and browse experience. Some understanding of the use of controlled vocabularies would be useful, but is not essential.
