Price: £325 + VAT Level: 1
"Gave me good general overview of Information Architecture"
"I had an idea about the topic before hand and the course and material reinforced my knowledge"
introduction:
This course is an introduction into information architecture. It will give an overview to delegates of information architecture within the organisation, covering the essential points important to information and knowledge professionals. It will give an understanding of information architecture products and an overview of how IA relates to mainstream IT activities, knowledge of information architecture capabilities of software tools and ongoing governance and maintenance procedures.
outcomes:
At the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Define information architecture in precise terms, and give an account of the main information architecture products and their uses. "Products" means metadata schemas, taxonomies, file plans, retention schedules, content type definitions and so on.
- Identify the business benefits of information architecture - that is, the unique benefits of systems developed with information architecture in hand, as opposed to systems developed purely on the basis of business analysis. Describe the problems addressed by information architecture.
- Assess the organisation's information architecture readiness and capabilities in objective terms, using tools such as maturity and capability models
- Understand the techniques and tools that are used to develop information architecture products, such as workshops, interviews, personas, and the study of existing business process and data models. Get an idea of the scope of information architecture development projects and the resources required.
- Describe the ways in which information architecture products are deployed in relevant information systems, including intranet solutions such as Sharepoint, content management and EDRM systems. Give an overview of how information architecture relates to mainstream IT activities such as data modelling and business process analysis.
- Learn to assess the information architecture capabilities of mainstream software solutions. Draw up a "must-have" feature list to share with procurement teams. Understand the capabilities of dedicated information architecture software tools.
- Give a high level view of ongoing governance and maintenance procedures
programme:
The programme will help delegates to develop information architecture practices within their organisations by focusing on developing knowledge and understanding of:
