What you'll be doing

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the implementation of the cataloguing strategies of the Archives and Library, ensuring that the results fit the related system architecture. In particular, the post-holder will manage the retro-conversion of legacy cataloguing in both electronic and hardcopy format, including working with contractors to produce metadata fit for presentation in an online public catalogue or third party services.

In addition, the successful candidate will undertake the full range of duties including reading room supervision, answering enquiries, preparing displays, cataloguing, and assisting with the transfer and accession of records destined for permanent preservation.

This is a brief overview of the role and there will be additional duties related to conservation, loans, cataloguing and supporting the wider change project

To be considered for this role you will require:
- A degree and a post-graduate information management (archives, libraries) related qualification.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, project management and problem-solving capabilities.
- Extensive experience of access and service issues and the challenges of working with historic and current archives.
- Knowledge and experience of managing projects retro-converting legacy metadata.
- Good working knowledge of national and international cataloguing standards for archives and libraries, and the ability to apply them methodically and pragmatically.
- Significant understanding of the technical tools for the capture, maintenance and enhancement of descriptive metadata including spreadsheets, databases and XML files.
