About the company

A leading retail organisation has a permanent job opportunity for a Data Scientist, working within Food Analytics with a focus on Forecasting and Ordering development.

What you'll be doing

Key job responsibilities include:
finding creative ways to solve business problems using mathematical techniques, innovative thinking and your experience as a Data Scientist.
exploiting data to optimise commercial performance and information accessibility through analytics.
improving the understanding of the Supply Chain Leadership team of how the business can perform better, enabling better decision making.
hypothesis testing, exploratory data analysis, developing predictive algorithms, amending stored procedures when new data becomes available, performance tracking and identifying trends.
ensuring appropriate analytical and statistical methods are applied to our wide range of data sources, and develop innovative approaches to the creation of analytic products.
presenting analytical findings and tools
working with IT and Big Data to ensure we have the data needed to deliver our business priorities.
keeping updated with new technologies and industry developments relating to analytics, data science and technology.

Why you’ll be hired

This job opportunity would suit someone with:

a minimum of 4 years' experience as a Data Scientist, ideally within retail or FMCG.
BSc (Maths, Statistics, Computer Science or a Science).
a strong background in statistical modelling is essential, and experience in writing Forecasting algorithms is preferred.
examples of taking large datasets and using them to provide answers to business questions.
development of code to implement mathematical models.
ability to quickly grasp business requirements and translate them into Data Science problems.
- experience of influencing stakeholders

- Knowledge of statistical modelling techniques, measures and tools including Apache Spark, and at least one of: SAS, R, Python.
- Knowledge and practical application of Machine Learning.
- Experience using Hadoop/Cloudera.
- Experience with the following applications to an advanced level is essential: SQL, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint.
- Experience with Spotfire (or similar data visualisation tool) is preferred.
