About the company

We are working with The Wiener Library to recruit a Head of Collections to support, sustain and shape the growth of the Library’s physical and digital collections. The Wiener Library is Britain’s largest archive on the Holocaust and Nazi era and modern genocide. The strategic goal of The Wiener Library is to serve as Britain’s Holocaust Archive.


What you'll be doing

In this Head of Collections job, you will be responsible for managing, developing and preserving the library’s physical and digital collections which are made up of books, archives, photographs and other collections. You will also be aiming to make these resources accessible to users through the use of digital technology to integrate the physical and digital collections. You will also work closely with the events team to promote the collections. A large part of this collections job will be looking at the digital archive materials and how to make these accessible.

To achieve this, you will be setting the collection management policies and procedures including the budget for collections and projects the institution is working on. You will also work to acquire funding for the institution and grant sources. You will have management of a team of library and archive specialists.


Why you’ll be hired

To be successful as the Head of Collections you will be an experienced librarian or archivist with experience of developing a specialist library and archive collection. You will need to be either fluent, or have advanced reading knowledge of German. You will have experience of working with digital resources and be comfortable in developing a digital collection and making this accessible to users. Experience of digital asset management is essential for this role to develop the digital capabilities.
