What you'll be doing

A pivotal role in delivering services to the members, customers and stakeholders who use the services of the Library and ensuring the services and activities meet the needs of those using it.

Acting as the focal point for all library related improvement projects whilst delivering proposed outcomes in agreed timescales, budgets and exceeding the stakeholder expectations.

Key responsibilities:

▪ Maintaining the library collections
▪ Provide relevant and appropriate research services
▪ Ensure the collections and material available are relevant and accessible (or by appointment) by library users at all times.
▪ Responsible for managing the planning as well as the budgetary and administrative functions of the library
▪ Preparation of management reports
▪ Establish and implement policies and procedures
▪ Attend or host Library related events to promote library services and the organisation
▪ Collect, preserve, and organise book collections, journals and documents (including rare book collection)
▪ Collate, analyse and interpret trends to facilitate library planning and marketing
▪ Daily ongoing administration of the library ▪ Management contributing to its preparation and delivering targets within budget
Scope: members, non-members, and all other stakeholders


Why you’ll be hired

Qualified to degree level in a library or information science discipline
▪ Previous library experience in a professional organisation (desirable)
▪ Experience of working with medical information or in a research environment
▪ Experience of document supply procedures
▪ Retrieving information from databases, the Internet, journals and other sources
▪ Working with electronic information management systems
▪ Working knowledge of budget management
▪ Knowledge and Understanding of online library service delivery
▪ Ability to manage and develop a specialised journal collection
▪ Searching for and retrieving medical information from databases and the Internet to support evidence-based research, including formulating search strategies
▪ Excellent customer service skills
▪ Excellent oral communication skills, both face-to-face, written and electronic
▪ Information retrieval skills, using medical bibliographic databases such as Medline
▪ Good team working skills
▪ Skills in the analysis and interpretation of statistical data (desirable)
▪ Ability to prioritise a varied and demanding workload
▪ Ability to work independently and use initiative
▪ Attention to detail
▪ A systematic approach to problem solving.
▪ Ability to develop new ideas, and continually improve processes and services
▪ Internal promotion of library
