About the company

Our Higher Education client in Middlesex is currently looking to recruit an Open Access Officer to join the Library’s Scholarly Communication and Rights and Library Services team, to focus on the Open Access agenda, ensuring that researchers and the client meet funder open access publishing requirements.

What you’ll be doing

The post-holder will be responsible for promoting Open Access initiatives with staff and doctoral researchers and advising on publisher’s status and funder compliant copyright licence options.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Management of the Open Access publishing fund
  • Advising on Open Access publishing mechanisms, publisher selection and article submission
  • Understanding Open Access requirements of funding agencies
  • Promoting Open Access within the organisation by appropriate means, including, writing web pages, delivering training and social media awareness.
  • Support the preparations for the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
  • Promote and monitor compliance with funders’ mandates and the organisations Open Access mandate and policy
  • Working with the Research Data Manager to ensure all funded Open Access publications contain details of related research data
  • Maintain a central register of Open Access funder publication compliance
  • Manage the Open Access publishing budgets and monitor and develop processes in accordance with organisational requirements

To be considered for this role you will require:

Key requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience of open access administration and funder policies (REF, UKRI, Wellcome Trust)

o     Open access fund management - managing central and UKRI block grant funds

o     Financial administration - making invoice payments, raising requisitions and purchase orders,

financial reconcilations using central systems (Unit 4 Business World)

  • Knowledge and experience of meeting funder open access policy compliance requirements (UKRI, Wellcome Trust, Research England) and completing annual returns (UKRI compliance, Jisc Total Cost of Ownership)
  • Research information and scholarly publishing experience
  • Knowledge of creating metadata and generating and interpreting bibliographical data
  • Experience of supporting repositories and file stores
  • Experience of developing support materials and training
  • Familiarity with the IPR and licensing issues in Open Access publishing and archiving
  • Ability to manage complex policy requirements and able distil information to a range of stakeholders, at all levels.
  • Develop and document processes and workflows clearly
  • Managing budgets
  • Accuracy and attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience of negotiating with publishers
  • Prior experience of Jisc Monitor (system used to record outputs and financial information) and Unit 4 (procurement system)
