6-month Fixed Term Contract


Monday to Friday 9.00 am – 5.00 pm

About the company

We are recruiting for a Team Leader – Collections Information for our Research Charity client in London. This is a 6-month Fixed Term Contract to cover a secondment within the team.

What you’ll be doing


•     Lead and manage a high-performing, creative and forward-thinking, multidisciplinary team of librarians, archivists and others, working flexibly across acquisitions, inventory, cataloguing, access, and other collections information tasks

•     Support the team to deliver continuous improvements to collections access, challenging them to think deeply about different ways in which collections could be represented and presented to diverse audiences


•     Direct line management of a multidisciplinary team of librarians, archivists and documentation officers, including recruitment, appraisal and performance management

•     Guiding the team to deliver the outcomes set out in the team’s quarterly and annual delivery plans, and to contribute to team and departmental indicators within the organisation’s success framework

•     Supporting the Collections Information Manager to develop and implement policies and operating procedures, and training colleagues in their application

•     Supporting the Collections Information Manager to lead and develop the Collections Information team, working closely together with the Team Leader and other colleagues with managerial roles within the team, and deputising for the Collections Information Manager when necessary

•     Creating an environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, in which the team is able to self-organise, share their knowledge and expertise, learn quickly, and find creative and audience-focused ways to deliver their work

•     Facilitating discussion and decision-making, coaching the team and the individuals within it, improving team productivity and removing impediments to progress

•     Developing a team culture of continuous development and collaboration, being committed to the importance of developing innovative inclusive practice in relation to collections information

•     Assisting with communication both within and outside of the team, improving transparency, and ensuring that information about the team’s progress towards planned objectives is up to date and visible to everyone who needs to know

•     Working closely with colleagues across different teams (particularly in Library Engagement and Experience, and the Digital Experience teams) to coordinate support for the collections information programme, and to ensure that collections access decisions are informed by a thorough understanding of audience need

•     Contributing to the delivery of a high-quality public service by coordinating enquiry and reference work, including answering email and telephone enquiries, working on appropriate service points on a rota basis, and developing and monitoring service standards to ensure that all users – onsite and online – receive accurate and timely access to information and resources

•     Promote equality of access in line with the organisation’s Access Policy and Forward Plan, and play an active role in ensuring that barriers to access are reduced

•     Undertaking occasional evening and weekend work, as required

•     Undertaking work in accordance with policies and principles

•     Undertaking any other work that may be reasonably required from time to time

Why you’ll be hired

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject
  • Project management or Agile certification
  • Professional qualification in library, archive or museum administration, or similar discipline
  • An experienced team leader with the ability to coach, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary and high-performing team to deliver its objectives
  • Proven capacity to think innovatively and creatively, with the confidence to experiment with new approaches, and to promote and manage change
  • Strong track record of collaborative or cross-domain working in library, archive, museum or other relevant setting(s)
  • Experience of Agile management
  • Experience of cataloguing, inventory, acquisitions and collections access management in a library, archive, museum or other relevant setting
  • Familiarity with collections processing and access standards in the library, archive or museum sector(s)
  • An excellent communicator with strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized and skilled at motivating others
